I have been reflecting lately on the nature of my gifts. What am I good at doing? Where do I have the potential to achieve greatness? And by what standards? Is it really worthwhile to pursue this excellence? Tonight, I came across an excellent TED Talk exploring a similar question. What do we do when [...]

In the spring of 1995, I took the writing portion of the now defunct TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills) test. I was a nerdy 4th grader who loved almost everything about school. Except writing. I hated writing. Couldn’t stand it. But my teacher told me that I wrote well. She told me I should [...]

When I see pictures like these of really happy looking people, it tends to cheer me up and make me smile or even laugh along with them.
When I see images of people truly hurting and suffering, I can’t help but feel sad, too. The pain in their faces seems to crawl out of the [...]

We are studying Job at Trinity and in our home groups. That dude had a reeeeal bad day. It made me think of this.
The saddest part by far is the melted blender. Brutal.
So how do you handle the hard times? Maybe we should all just laugh hysterically?!

Today I went Halibut fishing outside of Seward, AK. We had to leave Anchorage at 4:15 am. Ouch. We hopped on the boat in Seward around 7:30 under cold, cloudy skies, and started heading out to sea. After taking a few pictures of some pretty sweet mountains and sea lions, I [...]

Sometimes life just makes sense. There are times it doesn’t, but when it does, everything seems just right.
I used to say I thought I was born in the wrong place and the wrong century. For one thing, I have an adventurer’s spirit. I love to explore. But it seems these days there are very few [...]

I love fees. “Overdraft fees.” “Online purchase fees.” “Late Fees.” I’m sure you can relate. Nothing feels better than having an extra fee tacked on to the original price. It’s better than taxes. Today, I experienced this joy at Al’s Formal Wear. Apparently, Sunday is a business day (rentals are due the next business day). [...]

One of my buddies is getting hitched this weekend. After Saturday, my best friends from growing up (Jonathon, and now Greg) will both be married. Which means they are “officially” grown up.
I suppose there are a lot of steps, or levels, of grownup-ness. Turning 18, graduating high school, turning 21, graduating [...]

Today I had the windshield replaced on the Exploder. This was maintenance only about 8 years overdue… A small chip on the far left side had spread as a crack gradually across the windshield until it reached almost to the other edge. The windshield is now so perfectly clear that it almost [...]

Twenty minutes. Go.
I have often stated that I would like to be more consistent with “the art of blogging.” I enjoy writing and sharing my thoughts and experiences with others. Yet it is hard to keep up with. One reason for this is “Blogger’s Backlog” (I just made that up). I often have many things [...]
